Currituck County Regional Airport (ONX) is located on the mainland in Maple, NC. The airport is owned and maintained by Currituck County. While ONX is not technically located on the Outer Banks, nor considered an OBX airport, the northernmost beaches of North Carolina are part of Currituck County.
ONX has a much longer runway than any of the five Outer Banks Airports, so it can accommodate much larger aircraft. It also has lights for night landings which makes it a great alternative under certain conditions and circumstances.
Currituck County Regional Airport is a very popular choice for outdoor enthusiasts and duck hunting on the Outer Banks. There are almost 30 species of waterfowl that winter in Currituck County making this area an outdoorsman’s paradise. There are also miles and miles of remote areas of the Albemarle Sound waiting to be discovered by kayakers and many beautiful trails for families and hikers. ONX is the airport of choice for many thrill seekers that prefer to avoid the traffic and enjoy a more relaxed side of the Outer Banks.
Currituck County Regional Airport is a great alternative if you are flying in late or arriving on another flight and need a connecting flight to reach your final OBX destination. If you prefer to be picked up – or dropped off – at Currituck County Regional Airport, just let us know – we’re happy to accommodate you.
